Accommodation Definitions 

Apartment – Holiday apartments, business apartments and long stay apartments. Apartments are generally not serviced daily unless by arrangement. They are fully self-contained and enable a guest the ability to host visitors and provide full meal preparation. Apartments are larger in size than standard hotel or motel rooms, and have designated kitchens, dining and lounge areas. The bedrooms are separate from the living area and have private or ensuite bathrooms. All bedding and linen provided and their own laundry facilities.

Backpackers – Budget ‘Shared’ accommodation in a hostel or lodge, with an emphasis on the active travelling experience, facilitating cultural and social interaction for like-minded guests. Facilities like bathrooms, lounges and laundries and usually shared. Properties range from small converted houses to large hotel-like establishments.

Boutique & Lodge – A well-appointed property that provides unique facilities, ‘character’ accommodation location, services and experiences exclusively for guests; delivered by outstanding and knowledgeable hosts.

Guest & Hosted - Bed & breakfasts, farm and home stays, guest houses and similar establishments providing 'home-like' accommodation with an emphasis on personal interaction between the guest and the host. Cooking facilities are not usually provided. Breakfasts are a feature and are usually part of an all-inclusive tariff. Some properties may offer other meals on request.

Holiday Homes – If you’re after a completely self-sufficient holiday experience in Mid Canterbury, try booking a bach – a New Zealand holiday home! Intimate ‘home away from home’ for today’s modern traveller, allowing you to access some of the thousands of properties traditionally enjoyed by New Zealander’s as part of the great Kiwi holiday experience.

Holiday Parks – Camping grounds and motor camps, often with cabins and self-contained units. All properties provide communal kitchens, toilets, showers and laundries in addition to a variety of additional features. Choices may include camp and motor home sites, basic cabins to motels units, or bunk rooms for groups.

Hotels – Hotel Properties feature a licensed restaurant and bar, charge back facilities, and on site management at all times. All rooms have tea and coffee making facilitates. Breakfast is provided whether in a restaurant or breakfast room, or via room service. Some hotels have conference and banqueting facilitates. A standard room usually has one room for both sleeping and living with an ensuite bathroom and possibly a mini kitchen and mini bar.

Motels – Self-contained units that are serviced daily. All units include at least basic cooking facilities (microwave, and/or range) tea and coffee making facilities, a private or ensuite bathroom. Breakfast can be ordered the night before if required. Off-street parking, and all bedding and linen are provided. Communal laundry facilities are available.

Luxury Lodge – A unique and inspiring property set in an outstanding New Zealand location. The property must provide a complete luxury experience including onsite fine dining, professional hosting and additional guest experiences.
