The summers in Mid-Canterbury are long, hot and dry — alternatively, the winters tend to be crisp and cold making the snow-covered mountains to the West an ideal winter playground.

From world renowned Mt Hutt Ski Area, with its great snow and one of the longest seasons in the Southern Hemisphere, to heliskiing or boarding the virgin snow of the back bowls of the Southern Alps, this region has it all.

Methven is the winter capital of Mid-Canterbury and it’s alternatively known as "Mount Hutt Village" — a reflection of the fact that the world famous skifield is just a 35 minute drive away.

Methven is situated at a multiple roading junction where several roads fan out like spokes of a wagon wheel, making the town a hub at the centre. Not only that, but base yourself in our resort town Methven and you can access any number of ski areas in the Canterbury region all within relatively short scenic drives.

Everything is here – equipment rental, mountain transport, après ski by day and night, a wide range of accommodation and many off-mountain attractions including skydiving, ballooning, ice skating, jet boating and golf.

But there's more than snow-boarding and skiing to Mid-Canterbury. Near the small village of Staveley there's a natural outdoor ice-skating rink where there's occasionally night-time skating and curling competitions are staged.

So for family snow fun, cross country touring, off piste, park jumps or glacier heliskiing, join us in our amazing space, just an hour from Christchurch International Airport.
